The BAC was formed through a grassroots process by several active visual arts co-operatives and guilds in the Burlington region. Our building was opened in 1978 as a facility for these groups to develop dedicated studios with specialized equipment in the areas of photography, handweaving and spinning, sculpture and woodcarving, ceramics, fine arts, and hooking craft. The role of the Centre quickly expanded to include that of a public art gallery with exhibitions, publications, a unique collection of contemporary Canadian ceramic art, and educational programs. Incorporated in April, 1975, the Burlington Art Centre champions the role and value of art in life.
